Let’s face it. One of the biggest questions you have about your home remodeling project is: how much is it going to cost?
And the truthful answer is… IT DEPENDS.
We understand that can be a frustrating answer, but it really does depend. One important fact is of course the square footage of the project. But even for similar sized projects, pricing can vary significantly.
We sometimes explain variable remodeling costs as like planning for a party.
How Much Will Your Party Cost?
Let’s say you’re planning a party for an upcoming Friday night with a spouse or a friend and you start talking to each other about how much it will cost.
Even if you agree on inviting say, 20 people, does that tell you how much it will cost? It’s a start, but you will still have to discuss how much it will cost.
That’s because everything will depend on your specific choices for the party. It might cost $100 or it might cost $1,000.
If you decide to use decorations you have on hand, tell your guests it will be BYOB, and serve hot dogs, hamburgers, that will keep your budget toward the low end of the scale.
If on the other hand you decide to serve filet mignon, provide top shelf liquor for your guests, have gourmet appetizers, buy special decorations, and hire help to clean up, you can easily spend $1,000.
Either way you’re having a party Friday night (and hopefully having a good time) – but the real budget depends completely on your choices.
How Much Will Your Remodel Cost?
We think of remodeling costs in a similar way. We start off by giving you an estimate and say, “your remodel will cost somewhere in this range.”
When we give you that estimate range, we design it so you’ll have a good “party” either way (we assume when giving you a range that you always want quality results and not the cheapest junk materials).
From there, where your final costs fall within our estimated range will be dependent on your choices.
If you want the ‘hot dogs and hamburgers’ version of flooring, that’s fine. As long as that flooring is of reasonable quality (not something that will look terrible or won’t last), we’re fine with that and that choice will help keep your final pricing on the lower end of the range.
If you’d prefer the ‘filet mignon’ version of flooring, that’s great, too. We can do that for you and tell you exactly how much it costs.
As you make each decision, you’ll know how it impacts your overall costs (kind of like filling up your grocery cart the day before the party and seeing the prices on the shelves).
