Lesson: Don’t Be The Kind Of Greater Memphis-Area Homeowner That Makes The Remodeling Experience A Real Headache!
Imagine walking into a well-known, long-standing, and reputable local barber or salon to get your hair done up all fancy.
Once it’s your turn, you sit down in the chair next to a kid getting the same cushy treatment. Suddenly, a parent from the waiting area walks up and starts to lecture the barber or stylist, who, by the way, is extremely experienced and knows exactly what they’re doing.
You think to yourself,
Then they don’t go back and sit down but stand there, making the experience for the barber (and others) a real headache.
At Robbins Construction, we do a bit more than cut hair here in the Greater Memphis area. We’re a full-service home construction company: kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, new home additions, porches, new home construction, outdoor kitchen areas, you name it. One of our calling cards over the years has been ‘friendly expertise.’ We’re respectful professionals!
We’re experts who know how to treat people.
For example, one of our core tenants is to Always Listen First.Throughout our process, we go above and beyond to ensure the best remodeling or renovating experience possible. Still, one particular kind of homeowner makes it a challenge — those who don’t choose to trust us.
They know we’re seasoned craftsmen.
They know our team maintains a near impeccable local reputation.
They’ve researched us and explored, for example, our case studies and Kitchen Remodeling Galleries. They’ve met with us, gone through the initial design and estimating phases, and worked closely with us to choose all the specifics going into their new space.
But, when it comes time for us to do what we do, they won’t let us! They second guess our choices, lecture us on what we should be doing instead, constantly get in their Project Manager’s face, call and bother our manufacturers to check up on what we’re doing, and all else. They think they know better than we do, despite the fact they’ve likely never physically remodeled a home before!
We’ve done hundreds.
In Our Industry, The Customer Can’t Always Be Right
This idea that “the customer is always right” doesn’t translate into every context.
Does it apply in restaurants? Usually, yes.
Does it apply in most retail settings? Yeah.
Does it apply in the doctor’s office? Nope.
How about the home improvement world? NO, not in all aspects.
When it comes to putting a brand new kitchen or bathroom together with the utmost attention to detail and flawless workmanship that’s up to code, this is something for professionals.
- Simple Example: You may want to match X cabinetry with X countertops, but what if that kind of wood material will not adequately support stone with that much weight, given the size of the space?
- Another Example: you may want to use X kind of grout for a special artistic section of bathroom tile by the beautiful new window, but what if that’s not the best long-term solution.
There are endless examples.
The truth is, we simply know better! Not in a condescending or unfriendly way. We genuinely care about our work and our client’s homes.
Bottom Line: To Work With Specialists, You Need To Establish Trust
Thanks to our process, we rarely run into this kind of situation. We take the time to get to know you, understand your needs, tastes, eye for design, budget, vision, and lastly, whether or not your personality and our team are a good match. If we find we aren’t, there are many remodelers out there who are perfect for people with these kinds of temperaments.
But for Robbins Construction, as you browse our customer reviews from local Memphis-area homeowners, you find that we’re known for being friendly and brilliant with our work. We get along really well with our clients, which is why so much of our business comes from direct referrals. To see for yourself, head on down to our Germantown showroom, or give us a call.
